About Maine Coons

About mAINE cOONS

The Maine Coon is one of the largest domesticated cat breeds that originated in North America. They are known for being the most gentle cat breed of all and have justifiably earned the nickname of the “gentle giant”.

Maine Coons are friendly and get along with everyone. This includes children, dogs and other cats and therefore make a great addition to a family.

The male Maine Coon, on average, can weigh 7 – 11kg whilst the females generally range 5 – 9kg. They are generally a healthy and hardy breed, living approximately 10 – 13 years. **

Maine Coons come in a great variety of colours and patterns. They have a long beautiful two layer coat with a top protective layer covering a silky smooth bottom layer and a large fluffy tail. Due to the two layered nature of the coat minimal grooming is required when compared to other high maintenance long haired breeds.
